W. D. Glascock constructed both of these buildings in 1938 (at the same time as the adjacent Blanco Theater) for business rental. All three were designed in a mid-20th-century commercial vernacular style. Smooth limestone-faced buildings resting on concrete foundations, they are topped by wood-frame roofs. The metal awnings above the two properties connect.
The site of Glascock #1 (above right) was earlier used for dances and roller skating. Occupants of the present building have included a drugstore owned by Horace and Josiah Wagner, a clothing store run by Charles Hunter in the 1950s and ’60s, and a dress shop operated by Oletta Sheldon. Since Vi and Walter Eckerman purchased the building in 1976, it has been an antique and collector’s shop.
Glascock #2 (above left) tenants have included a cafe run by the Louis Konzes, the L&M Cafe and a meat market run by Lem and Myrtle Wagner, and the Byars Fine Food Restaurant operated by W. L. and Gertrude Byars (1960-70). Stanley Lane bought the building from Bill Atwell in 1973, and for a few years, it was a Sears catalog store. The building has also housed a carpet company owned by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ward and in 1988 Chip Sweeney began an antique store here.
After Uptown Blanco purchased the buildings on the west side, the Glascock buildings were renovated and now serve as part of Uptown Blanco Restaurant.
