First Church Building in Blanco
The Blanco United Methodist Church is the oldest church in Blanco, organized in 1854. Worship was conducted in a log cabin and plank building until 1882. In 1883, the present stone building, at 34 feet by 53 feet, was built, dedicated, and stills serves as church sanctuary.
Native limestone rocks -- the walls are 18 inches thick -- were hauled 10 miles by ox carts and wagon team. The unique cornerstone is laid above the east doorway arch. The tower bell is the same one installed in 1883.
